The Ship Hotel is the gateway to amazing walking holidays in and around Weybridge

Looking for the perfect place to start your walking holiday? Then mark the Ship Hotel, Weybridge, on your OS map. Because we’re the ideal starting point for a ramble through some of Surrey’s most scenic countryside. Whether you’re a gentle ambler, rugged hiker, or simply want to get some country air and walk off a leisurely pub lunch, we’ve got you covered with our guide to some of the best local walks.

Weybridge on foot

No Weybridge walking holiday is complete without a ramble around the town. If you’re curious to see some of the properties that are dotted throughout the area, we’d advise taking a jaunt along the Thames path. You can hop on the River Thames Ferry if you prefer to explore from the water.  The Weybridge to New Haw lock follows the route of the last commercial barges. It’s a great way to acquaint yourself with the local area, and even better, you’ll never be far from somewhere to sit down, grab a drink, and enjoy a well-deserved meal at one of the many beautiful pubs, cafes and restaurants nearby.

Race over to Brooklands

Weybridge is known as the birthplace of motorsport, but the picturesque route passing over the River Wey from the Ship Hotel to Brooklands Museum is a great excuse to leave your motor in the Ship Hotel’s carpark. Brooklands was once an active racing circuit, and is now an amazing museum full of racing aircraft exhibits, and a must-visit for anyone staying in the area.

Broadwater Lake

Looking to introduce the kids to nature? Then an afternoon stroll around Broadwater Lake is well and truly in order. With a new footpath built just a few years ago, this area of outstanding natural beauty is well known for rare bird sightings. It’s a circular route, not far from the town centre, with an optional extra section that takes you along the canal tow path.

Talking of towpaths…

The Wey Navigation between Weybridge and New Haw offers a nice four-mile circular walk, ideal for scoping out dragonflies, ducks and delicious food at one of the many country pubs you’ll pass along the way.

The Tillingbourne trek

For those looking to go a little further afield, this steady seven miler will take you up and over some of Surrey’s most stunning countryside. Passing through farm, wood and parkland, you’ll cross Tillingbourne stream, which means you can stop off and visit Chilworth Gunpowder Mills.

This historic building dates back three centuries, having been built by the East India Company, back when gunpowder was in great demand throughout the British Empire. Today, the mill lies empty, but the ruins have absolutely exploded with wildlife.
